Hi all,

I am considering voice reconition for my home that is being built as a future option. I know there is ceiling mount microphones, but does a microphone eixisit that woudl go into a wall gangbox? This would be easier to add since i can get into the wals from the basement.

Well, if not, wouldn't that really be pretty easy to DIY? A decent quality microphone, a blank faceplate with some holes drilled in, etc?

I have a feeling that if you DO find a wall mount one, it'll be ridiculously expensive. At least, the one ceiling mount one I ever saw was....

While I have used them indoors for VR, I currently use them for outdoor listening.
Drill small round hole... insert mike. :P

BSR will attest as to the pickup of these things. They seem to hear everything.
I'd think the PZM mikes might be better for VR, but I've never had much issue using these.

What wire do you use for those, cat5 type? And on the other end, do you just wire up a standard microphone plug? What is the max length of wire you think you could run that?

RG59 just like analog cameras.

I also have devices that will combine audio and video onto a single RG59u or Cat5 cable.

Ski,

Why do you think the PZM style would be better for VR? The filtering?

Now, I'm curious...what are you listening to outdoors?

Yes, Skibum turned me on to those mics from Supercircuits and they are worth every penny! Just supply power and you have line level sound. I just used existing Cat5e wiring and have no noise problem.

I use these as inputs to my Slingbox so I know have sound with my camera videos on my AT&T Tilt phone!

I have one of those mics as well, they really are incredible sensitive. Just like BSR, I used an existing CAT5 run that I had in place (also used for video), seems to work well. Not sure how well these would work for a VR application, as it will pick up a lot of background noise too.
