Installing strobe outside- on surface mounted J-box

Hi all,
 
I am finally getting around to Installing my strobe outside, on surface mounted double gang, waterproof J-box. The issue I am having (prior to actual install) is that the strobe does not seem to cover j-box very well and there is a gap at the top and bottom. I purchased a seal to go between the j-box and the strobe, but was concerned of water getting in.
 
How have people dealt with this issue?

Why don't you get a blank cover for the jbox and mount the strobe to the cover.

Might find it cheaper at Lowes or HD.
 
Stop by ratshack and pick up some grommets to protect the wire going through the plate.

Actually did pick up a cover since HD did not sell just the gasket, for some reason. Cover is alum so it may cause some problems with dissimilar metals, but I was hoping to mount it directly to the box. I will try and see what happens. I was just curious what other's had done.

SL1. I think they only make one kind, in 4 colors.

You have the wall kit, correct?
 
There's not much those units, but if desired, usually a bell box and cover with a hole drilled is all you need if you're truly concerned about any gaps, otherwise get some duct seal

Alright. Thanks. I am not too concerned but like to do things right. I assume water will always find a way in eventually, but since I will use the gel crimps, should not be too much of a problem.

Put the splice up high in the box and leave the gap on the bottom for weeping if you're absolutely concerned about water, condensation, whatever and aren't going to seal the box tight.
 
Gel crimps won't prevent cable issues if they are under water or are always soaked, it just extends the life.
