Insteon Fan Switch?

I've been using a Switchlinc V2 to control a fan for a few months now. Controling a Hampton Bay commercial ceiling fan (3 blade model, from Home Depot). It's been working fine and no hum on this particular fan.
Thanks, that's nice to know. I have 2 Hampton Bay fans I plan on controlling. Right now they both have those RF remote adapters and have no hum, I was hoping results would be the same with Insteon.

OK, a couple of things.

There is no standard dimmer that is going to be good for fans. Not only does the dimming cause humming in many cases, but fans need full startup current. It is very bad for fans to start up without this "kick-start"; you can reduce the life of the motor. Therefore, you should use a switch designed for ceiling fans.
I couldn't have said it better. Yes, you can hook up a dimmer to a ceiling fan and it will work, but, you can cause damage to the fan over time this way and it will eventially start to hum and you'll be buying a new fan (I learned this lesson...).

Martin, do you have any insteon installed?
Yes, I test out almost everything I can get my hands on. I have X10, Compose, UPB and Insteon all installed in my house.

I was wondering if you can tell me how they look next to the compose.
Well, the color is PK but they are a totally different style switch. It really depends your personal preference on the look. The Lightolier fan switch matches the normal Switchlinc switches perfectly except that the nightlight is a dofferent color (red vs. green) which isn't a big deal to me. The styling of the Insteon switches is very different and the feel of the switches is different.

Therefore, with every Insteon switch added to your network, your X-10 devices will become less reliable.
I have found this to be true too and have had to de-install some Insteon switches to put an X10 switch in with a booster to compensate for this.

Well this is the first I heard of Insteon degrading X10. So much for dual installs. So UPB and X10 will not work together and now Inst eon and X10. So Z-Wave and X10 are the only installs that will play together and this makes since since neither share the same "road".

I've got X10 and Insteon both working in my house of 3800 sqf. I currently have about 12 Insteon devices and 35 X10 working together with no degradation in reliability. Of course, Im one of those rare people who never really had much of a problem with x10 anyway.
