Intercom & whole house audio integration

I am looking for an intercom that integrates with a whole house audio.

my intercom drop locations are basically the same as my whole house audio zones.

is there any whole house audoo system that also does intercom? I need the house house to have a rs232 interface as I also want to hook it to cqc.

I saw the russound compoint and some referneces to integrating it to their whole house systems but in the manual I didn't see much. only a way to have the intercom disconnect/interupt the speaker wire.

any suggestions

I knew about the htd model, however the model with the intercom doesn't have rs232.

I will check out the zon and that spreadsheet...

anyone have the nuvo or russound, does it integrate at all?

I'm sure you already checked the multi-zone audio tab on the Home Automation Comparison Spreadsheet but in case you didn't notice it, both ZON and Home Theater Direct make whole house audio systems that inlude intercoms built into the audio keypads.

I do a lot of installs with Russound ComPoint Intercom. The beauty is in it's simplicity... it uses a relay to interrupt the whole-house audio and mute the music during a page/intercom function. It can be used with any audio system (not just Russound) because it connects into the speaker wires.

No integration with the intercom itself (RS-232, etc.), but it's not really needed. It's the music system that you'll need control of and most systems offer serial control.

If you can provide a little more about what you're trying to accomplish I'm sure myself and others can provide some additional feedback...

Cheers,
Paul

You may also want to consider a phone based intercom rather than a keypad based one. I find a large percentage of my intercom communication involves paging folks to pick up the phone anyway so it is handy to do my paging through the phone. (It would really suck to have to get up from my desk or couch and go use a wall mounted device). I still get muting of the music system by using speaker relays triggered from the phone going off-hook.

what type of phone system? i have a IP PBX with mostly SIP phones, which i can't really integrate relay into without voiding warrantees.
