iPhone/iPod J9 Automation Engine App Preview

The J9 Automation Engine iPhone App provides a remote touch screen interface similar to the existing Touch Screen Viewer experience but runs on an iPhone or iPod Touch.

The app supports your current J9AE touch screen interfaces even if they are larger than the iPhone's screen resolution of 320 x 480. Interfaces larger than the iPhone's screen can be pinch zoomed and scrolled by dragging a finger across the screen. Landscape mode is supported as well by simply rotating the device.

It's not yet available in the iPhone App Store but the iPhone app for the J9 Automation Engine is available for preview by request.

If you are interested please let me know.

Sounds very promising. Will the Windows Mobile client support similar scaling features?

Yes, like the J9AE iPhone app, the J9AE Windows Mobile app does currently support scaling. Since there isn't currently a pinch zoom in the Windows Mobile OS there is a menu option to toggle between Fit To Screen and 1:1.

Here are a few iPhone screen shots showing big touch screen interfaces meant for a PC but working on the iPhone in both portrait and landscape modes. The app runs in full screen mode which is why the iPhone status bar is not shown. Most users will probably want to create interfaces that are the same size as the iPhone so you don't need to zoom or rotate. In fact interfaces which have the same look and feel as traditional iPhone apps can be created as well using the Touch Screen Builder application.

(with hand raised, jumping up and down...)
Me! Me! Me! Me! Me! Me! Me!

:rolleyes::mellow:

But yeah I'd love to check it out. Now that I've jumped head-first into lighting, I have all the more reason to want something more like J9; and I already have J9AE up and running so this will be a nice add-on.

I've started an iPhone interface using the J9AE Touch Screen Builder application. Everything in the interface is customizable.

Here's a few screen shots:

I finished up the last few screens. I'll be packaging it up and making it available for downloads this weekend.

Thanks for the feedback everyone, it has been very helpful. Several of you have reported app crashes when using the slider control and media browser.

These issues have been corrected and will be available in the upcoming 0.19 release.

Thanks again,

Johnny

Where's the Android app??? ;)

It's on the to do list... that is if someone doesn't beat us to it. The Remote Touch Screen Protocol documentation is publicly available so anyone can create an android, Linux, or Mac app. There are 2 rendering modes to choose from, one of which is fairly simple for quick development.

Hint: Android apps are created using Java via the Eclipse IDE.

Here's a working Tivo Series 3 interface I put together real quick for the upcoming Tivo network support. The numeric keypad is shown as a popup by clicking the icon in the upper right corner. I'll have to figure out a way to fit volume and on/off on there somewhere... those would be IR buttons though.

We have updated the iPhone user interface to support some recent new features. The new interface will be available soon, when version 0.23 is released.

The changes include:

* The Favorites interface now shows the thermostat heat and cool set-points.
* The slider controls now have a blue fill image to the left of the slider thumb.
* The Browse Music interface now supports searching.
* The Browse Music interface now lists music in rows instead of tiles.
* The Browse Music interface no longer shows the navigation/volume controls.
* The Now Playing interface's volume control now adjusts the device volume while the slider is moving.
* The touchable area of many of the controls have been increased to improve user interaction.

PS: In case some of you may have missed the announcement, the J9 Automation Engine is now "Elve".

I've attached a few screen shots for reference.
