Latched relay explained

Old friend just called and is coming over.  I will take pictures of his automobile.
 
It is not a Firebird.  It is a '67 Camaro with a V8 327.  The starter is on the passenger side of the engine and below the block.
 
He did say that Pontiac made a '67 Firebird with an overhead cam back then too.
 
He went to see car races last night at the local race track.  He said they do over 300 mph for a quarter mile in 3.9 seconds.  (nitrous injected funny cars).

He told me some of the upgrades to it in the last 20 years
 
1 - repainted
2 - front disk brakes (had drum)
3 - power steering (had none)
4 - new seats
5 - new alternator

He is stubborn.  I told him about your starter issues and why. 
 
He just bought a new starter (refurbished) from an automotive big box store.  I doubt very much that they fixed the design of the starter.

 
It is not the design of the starter it is the design of the solenoid that has a problem. Not only did they probably not fix the design, they may have made it worse by putting a stiffer spring than the original that was used in 1967.

Yup; mentioned your posts relating to the starter last year after his car stalled after idling / shutting it off / starting it 10 minutes later.
 
It didn't start and we had to wait 30 minutes or so.  
 
This all related to starting the Triumph Spitfire. 
 
I had done it a few weeks earlier and didn't have an issue using my automobile / battery. 
 
This last time we couldn't start it.  Thinking will just tow it out to my garage in the next few weeks.
 
I doubt that the Camaro starter solenoid was modded on the new starter.

The solenoid is not molded to the starter. Google GM delco starter for images and you will see what it looks like.

I wonder if he replaced both the starter and solenoid or just the starter.  I am guessing they are sold together refurbished.

They can be purchased apart or together but if you buy a starter from a chain like advanceauto you will get the two assembled as one.

It is two layers of aluminum with another material as insulator between them and it has air space around the starter.solenoid.
