Hobby-boards LCD kit/board/schematic use 4 bit to communicate with LCD display and 3 other ports on DS2408 for detect state of switch.
That is different from Maxim-Dallas schematic on http://www.maxim-ic.com/appnotes.cfm/an_pk/3286 which reflect on coding of DS2408 also (different Java code too).
