Life Alert (and similar) comments

My parents are thinking of getting this system for both sets of grandparents for Xmas. The information Life Alert sent them has no prices. I looked online and found some parts I do not like...Poor support, 3 year contract, $300 setup fee and $60/mth. If they should die before 3 years, you're still on the hook for the monthly fee.

Does anyone have any experience with Life Alert? Is there any others out there that are similar but are better (cheaper, no contracts, better supports)?

Neither has any security system in place to where I could improve upon it to do this.

Thanks
Eric

wow...$60/month...thats a real ripoff....so is the installation cost...

Typicall..they know it's for your loved ones so you'll pay whatever and they take advanatge of that...

Yuck, yuck, YUCK! ;)

I'd say that was highway robbery, but I'd be insulting the highway robbers. :D

The turkey is going to hit the plate momentarily, so I can't go digging, but there has to be a better/cheaper solution. One of the cheap alarm panels, and panic keyfob maybe. Yes, you wouldn't have the 150' microphone setup but is that REALLY worth the price they're asking?
