M1G + GRI2600 saves the day!

We've been in our new house for just over 1 year. I installed the Elk M1G in my new house. Part of that installion included approximately 25 GRI2600 water leak sensors throughout the house. Of course, my wife was convinced that this was all just techie stuff that I wanted...blah....blah....blah

Well, today at around 10AM I received a text message on my phone. It was from my house. The message told me that I have a water leak. Yeah, I have those rules running on the M1G. The rules work like this:
1) Whenever a water leak occurs then turn off the main water into the house (I have the Elk water shutoff valve)
2) Whenever the Elk water shutoff valve turns off then send a text message to my phone

I called home and called my wife's cell phone but she didn't answer. So I drove home (40 minutes) and immediately saw that the laundry room water sensor was violated. Sure enough, when I went upstairs I discovered a small amount of water on the floor and more in the pan that the wash machine sits in.

Our somewhat new wash machine (less than 1 year old) broke down and starting leaking. The M1G with the GRI2600 caught it...shut off the main water...and sent me the text!!!

My wife finally called me. She actually said that she never believed that we would ever need those water leak sensors.

Who's a hero now? Huh? <pats self on back>

Yep! My wife just realized that all of my playing with technology might just be useful. I have an Elk temperature probe installed outside under a covered patio. Every morning at 8:00AM, 8:15AM and 8:30AM the Elk annouces the time and outside temperature. She commented that she really likes that annoucement while she gets our son ready for school.

Yep....see kids...technology can be cool!
