M1Gold won't e-mail

Thanks in advance.

I am trying to program an M1Gold to E-mail a cell phone that is not a smart phone.

I called the cell phone provider and got their format. It is phone#@vtext.com or more specificly phone#@vtext.com. This actually converts the E-mail to SMS format and texts the phone.

I set up a test rule like this, If back door open then send E-mail ......

The Elk system is hooked up to a provider named fairpoint. The email acct assoc with it is [email protected]

If I set the M1G to Email from the M1G to [email protected], it works great.

If I send an email from [email protected] to myphone#@vtext.com , it works great

If I send from M1G to myphone#@vtext.com nothing happens.

Any ideas or further questions?

Thanks

Mike

mine sends text messages to my Verizon phone.. just as you describe via the #####@vtext.com technique

What is the firmware level of your M1XEP? Mines at 1.3.28, you check that via Snd/Rcv menu option, and pick Enroll Update Control.

I would edit your OP and make the email look less like emails or you are in for a world of hurt with regards to spam...

What is the content of the emails you are trying to send? You might be exceeding the character limit.

Also, what are your DNS settings in the M1XEP's setup screen? You might try playing with the DNS settings a bit. Use 8.8.8.8 or 8.8.4.4 as one of your DNS accounts. (Google Public DNS servers)

I have the same firmware version as you. I now have it working where if I send a test from the M1EXP setup menu E-mail screen it works fine, to my phone or to my G-mail account (possibly due to gatchel's 8888 idea), but now I can't get it to send from a trigger from rules.

Here is a test

rule 22 Whenever back door (zone2) becomes not secure
then ANNOUNCE back door (zone2)
result Back door announces

rule 23 Whenever back door (zone2) becomes not secure
then SEND EMAIL MESSAGE 4 to [email protected] (email 4)
result no email received

Keep in mind that when I send a test it works.

Thanks

Mike

I rebooted the M1G and now everything is working great.
Thanks for your help.

I hope this thread helps someone else at a later date.

Thanks

You might want to edit out your real phone number and email address from these posts... Put in baloney like [email protected] and [email protected].

The spam bots will read this and clobber you with junk...

Intermittant sends.. boy I dont know. I didnt like the way texting worked, I just stuck with email addressing for the list of my email notifications.
Are you saying those are also intermittant, in addition to your vtext texts?

maybe a POP issue and SSL on the email host not playing nice with the XEP.

I have an account that had issues with Yahoo not playing nice with their XEP a few years back. Can't remember offhand what we did to get around it, so I'd have to think a little

I have removed his phone# and e-mail address. I am going to have to put something in place which will filter this out, as this seems to be happening a lot lately. Feel free to use the 'Report' feature next time anyone spots something like this, thanks!

Dan, thanks for removing my #s. I guess I thought since this was a password protected site it would be ok. But, can anyone read it?

Thanks to everyone. Now it is working perfectly. I think my ISP had an intermitent problem.

Thanks

Mike
