M1XEP replacement suggestion?

My M1 Gold and M!XEP is working fine, even after 10+ years. But in advance of a XEP failure I wanted to throw out the question of a suitable replacement for the XEP. I would suspect the MTF of my XEP is coming soon and I want to have a backup

I bought a spare XEP and keep it in a box, just in case.

Is the xep in danger of being discontinued? Seems like they are still readily available new.

I imagine the XEP will be available as long as the M1 panel is available. I keep a spare XEP on hand because I had one fail, and my M1G no longer interfaces with Homeseer or HomeAssistant without it, and I don't want to wait a week to get back up and running. I try to keep a spare for critical components - belt and suspenders guy.

I reviewed the documentation for the Home Assistant integration for the Elk M1 and discovered that it appears to be possible to directly talk to the serial interface (RS232 port on the M1). I haven't tried it yet.
