Manual Fire Pulls in residential setups?

I made the mistake of talking about the basement HA setup with my mother today. She's a little tripped cuz, well, that's what she does best. Plus, my uncle died in a fire in his basement cuz he did shoddy HV wiring. Although I've reassured her that i'll be calling an electrician for that plus to review my work, and that i've put in a wired smoke detector, and I have a fire extinguisher, she's still a little concerned. Even if there's no personal injury, there's the destruction to the house as well.

I know she'll always be a little concerned, but i'm wondering if getting one of those easily recognizable Napco Fire Pulls would add value in being able to shave off a few minutes from the fire response time. Something like the image below.

Whaddya think? Silly? I noticed AO doesn't carry it, at least on their site, so i'm wondering if this is a head-shaking, eyes-rolling thought.

If it makes life easier, I say go for it. Just make sure it's a simple switch closure and not tied to a bigger fire control. I have seen more attractive pull units. I can get you one at my distributor and mail it up to you. PM me.

I programmed a function key on each keypad for fire. I have 4 in the house so there are plenty of places to initiate a manual alarm. I also feel its less attractive to kids to play with.

That is a great idea I wthink I will add that as well to my house. Why not!

Maybe a file police EMS switch would be nice instead of just a fire, any of thoes out there? Or at that point are you into another keypad?

I'm going to go with just a fire one for ease of use and identification, rfdesq turned me on to a pretty nice looking one. I may actually put one in the kitchen, we have a quasi-hidden location that's still easy-to-reach. Hell, I wouldn't be shocked if the Oakland Fire Department showed up sooner than the OPD, anyhow.

Check local municipal guidelines, a quick search for the dallas area reveals that if a fire "pull station" is installed in a Class A structure (residence) and is connected to monitoring, you must meet TONS of guidelines. The worst of which, AutoCAD type drawing of the structure showing the EXACT location of the installed "pull station", and even worse, dedicated circuit breaker and EMT conduit for the lenght of the wire.

Geez, as hard as I try to stay a Democrat, it's hearing about stupid stuff like that making me want to waste my vote and go Libertarian.
