Matrix switches

I looking for an inexpensive way to do whole house video/audio with a specific feature in mind.

I'm thinking of using a monoprice 4x4 HDMI switch for the video, and looking for an inexpensive audio matrix switch on ebay. Both switches need to have RS232 control at least. The idea is, for watching TV in the living room, switch the v-matrix TV input to LR output, and the same for the a-matrix. Where it gets fun, is when I can have TV sound in the kitchen, or music playing in all rooms while the TV is on for background pictures.

The plan is to install ceiling speakers throughout the house.

In addition, I was trying to create a wall plate that has a mic and a push button. The push button would activate, perhaps an i-PAC device that would connect to a PC, maybe running Girder, to control a PC based intercom system. So, maybe 8 - 10 microphones in the house connected to the a-matrix switch, which is connected anyway to all the speakers in the house. When I press the button in the garage, the audio from the microphone in the wall plate goes to the matrix switch, and the PC control changes the a-matrix routes over rs232, which sends it out to all speakers. Within 10 seconds, if someone in the living room presses the button, then the PC commands the a-matrix to switch the mic input from the LR wall plate to the speakers in the garage, and the mic input from the garage wall plate to the LR speakers. All until someone in that party presses a button again, and it shuts off, or switches back to the original routes.

What kind of microphone will be suitable for voice, and be able to have a signal travel over wires perhaps 50 - 75 feet? The owner of i-PAC told me the buttons would be no problem.

Finally, here's a proposed wall mounted microphone/button plate!

Thanks in advance for any of your thoughts!
