This is a really serious problem!! I have over 200 CDs in my collection. After reboot the computer that the server is running on the cover art for each CD is missing. When I load builder the path to cover art for each CD is missing. It appears that this information is not saved when th ;) e PC is shutdown or rebooted. Any ideas on this?

Can you provide the details of how you added the Media? It may help to explain why the cover art is longer visible.

BTW, here's how Premise maintains a Media library:
I'm assuming you created a File Provider and pointed it to a folder containing all of your music and cover art. The File Provider builds an index of everything it discovers in the folder (and sub-folders). Premise keeps the index updated by monitoring the folder for additions and deletions. Premise maintains an index and does not retain a copy of any media. If the media file (audio, video, images) is deleted from the monitored folder, it will disappear from the index as well (i.e. it will no longer be visible in Premise). Premise maintains the index in its data-store, in memory, and writes it out periodically to disk in XML format.

Thanks for the quick reply 123!!! I have all of my media (all music at the moment) in a folder. After creating the Fileprovider and entering the path to the folder that contains the audio, Premise found all the music and populated the provider. I had to manually add the path for the cover art for each CD. This all works fine until I reboot the computer or restart the server. The server is finding the audio (all the CDs) but the path to the cover art is no longer there. I hope this is helpful.

... I had to manually add the path for the cover art for each CD. ...

The default list of file extensions is: ".mp3;.wma;.wmv;.asf;.avi;.mid;.wav;.jpg;.gif;.png;.bmp". Any cover art found in the folder will be automatically included in the index.

My music is organized like this: "c:\Music\ArtistName\AlbumName\SongTitles and Cover Art" and the index contains all information including the cover art ... and it persists after a reboot. How is your media organized and how are you "manually adding the path for the cover art"?

My music is organized the same except for one thing; my cover art is in a separate folder. This is a holdover from a previous application. I think you are sugesting that the cover art must be in the same folder as the music.

Yes. Maybe other Premise users use a different technique, but I think the cover art ought to be within the Album's folder. It establishes the association between the album art and album songs.

The File Provider is assigned a single, root folder and it monitors all sub-folders. If all cover art is in one of these sub-folders then it will work (i.e. survive a reboot). However, this is not a good approach because Premise will simply show all album art images in that folder without associating each one to its corresponding album.

Thanks 123, it works with the album art in the same folder as the songs. I will use this approach until another suggestion is discovered.

IslandMan,
You're welcome! BTW, what are you using to play the songs? The internal PC sound card (i.e. "ComputerAudio" driver) or something more complex like whole-home audio?

Ill have to double check when I get home, but I had put the artist headshot into the top level folder, in the first position, with the 'albums' following after that...that way, when I look at CD content, I see the artist image as opposed to whatever alphabetically first titled album cover is....(its a quirk.... :hesaid: )

I am using the internal sound card at the moment, but will change this in the future.
