Monitor Keyfob to Alert when out of reach?

Is it possible to somehow tell if a Keyfob is out of reach?  I have a standard GE/Resolution Wireless 4 button keyfob.  I understand these are not 2-way, but I recall having an issue where it said "Keyfob Missing" I'm wondering if they send a periodic update to confirm they are in reach, and after so many failed attempts it would flag the keyfob as missing?
 
I'm thinking of using this to tell if someone is home or not...

Verify your programming.
 
If the keyfob is programmed appropriately, the system should not supervise for a check in.

The unit and application to see if someone is in range is going to be problematic at best.
