Motion sensors for stairwell lighting

I have a stairwell that is pretty simple, up from the first floor 90degree turn and then up to the top floor. The cieling over the stairs is high, maybe 16 feet. I would like one motion sensor to detect people at the top of the stairs and the bottom to automatically turn on the lights.

I'm asking instead of testing because the ladder work on this will not be easy... can one PIR be 'aimed' so it sees the bottom of the stairs and the top in a consistent manner? Or should I start with two PIRs? I'm sure I'll have to do some masking to prevent downstairs motion from turning on the lights but reducing sketchy ladder time will be useful. Any thoughts?

Can you temporarily attach a PIR to a long pole so you can test its reaction from various locations? No ladder time necessary until you find the place that works for you.

If you can, there's an easier solution than motion detectors... use pressure plates. It helps to put these on the landings and not on the first step... that way, you have light before you take the first step

Like the pp idea. Whats your favorite ones to use poli? anyone?

This will work upstairs as it is carpeted, but the downstairs floor is bamboo so I think I'm stuck using the first stair.

I searched at automated outlet and didn't see anything. What are listed as? Pressure sensor? Pressure plate?

Worthington sells the USP908 (14x24) for around $35

They have weight sensitive models (pet-immune), but they are more expensive
