Mounting a Monitor

Howdy all,

I posted this over at AVS, but not bites. I thought I'd post here as this forums is generally more active and more helpful anyways

I purchased this wall mount about six months ago for my office. Worked fantastically with my 20 inch dell Monitor. Well, today the monitor started smoking and died. Not happy. Oh well, that's life. I am looking to replace it, and would like to get a 24 inch with HDMI input. Is there any chance this is a good idea? The arm is rated for 10 to 22 inches on the website, and 10 to 20 inches on the instruction manual. Its screwed in to a stud with 2.5 inch screws. and is very beefy to the feel. I do keep it fully exntended for the most part. On the instruction manual it says its UL approved up to 25 pounds. The monitor I'd like to get is referenced above, weighing in at 12 pounds, but a bit over the size limit. Anyone have any suggestions?

It should work just fine since it's under the weight criteria. The company isn't going to warranty any TV that is our of the criteria though.

I think the weight aspect is fine. I believe there are different size VESA mounts and it could be a 24" monitor uses a larger size plate than this mount has. If the physical mount plate fits then I would think it would be ok.

I wouldn't worry about it either. At first I though that the worse case scenerio would be that the arms would bend a little due to the weight and cause the screen to sit a little crooked. But then you mentioned that the weight capacity is 25lbs. So with only 12lbs hanging on the mount, it shouldn't be a problem. Since you used the mount for a while without incident, I think you can confidently say it isn't defective, so the odds of a warranty claim are pretty low IMHO.

Well, those are the responses I was hoping for. I think I'm going to pull the trigger. Anyone here anything bad about the monitor I linked to? It has pretty good reviews on Newegg.

I have the Gateway FHD2401 and really like it. A 24" does make a big difference. There are not too many thorough tech reviews out on the Asus yet because its new, but the one thing I did see pointed out that turned people off was that it was only 1920x1080 which is great for 1080p movies but a little odd for a pc display. At that size I really think you want the full 1920x1200. I switched mine from 19x12 to 1920x1080 and it did look a little funny to me. So if you are using it primarily for a pc display you may want to investigate that further. I know its not what you wanted to hear, but better now than after you get it, right?
