Multiple video/audio sources with high WAF?

I am setting up MythTV (linux DVR) and wanting to make the system more user friendly. TV sources are OTA, STB, and DVD player. I would like to make it easy to select the different sources. I have a matrix switch I was planning to use for selecting video to 2 TVs, input to MythTV and also some audio switching (want to make the audio more user friendly too and have automated whole house announcements). Control is via IR remotes. The IR goes into the linux box and then to the various equipment so I can script just about anything (or at least think I can figure it out) but my question is how best to make the user interface. I would like to not have to be looking at a tv for it to be usable, especially for selecting audio sources. I could define certian "channels" as audio sources - i.e. ,8 hundreds are OTA - 802 is channel 2, etc; 900 is dvd, etc. Could set up channels about 1000 as audio sources - perhaps 1907 as fm station 90.7

Thinking others must have dealt with this before and looking for ideas...

I know it is not Linux, but I use Windows 7 Media Center in my house with a Ceton Tuner Card.

Each TV has an XBox connected to it. I also have a media server on my network. I am able to stream any ripped media (music, video, etc.) and up to 4 channels of TV (FiOS) throughout the house. Each XBox also has a DVD built in, so I can watch a movie in any location as well (plus being able to play video games in every room is pretty cool too!).

Very high WAF. No bumps at all.
