Need some help with a Nuvo NV-T2DF tuner setup

These tuners are discontinued. I found one for $140 on eBay. The seller claims it works ok, but the displays on the front panel don't work. I took a gamble and bought it thinking if its really broken I can probably fix it. However after downloading the manual I see that there are different modes the unit can be programed into. The one that connects it to the NuvoNet system renders the front panel controls inoperative and I don't know in what mode its coming to me. Now I'm starting to worry. Will even be able to turn this thing on?

So I'm looking for some info on how to set this thing up and interact with it. I'm not getting the software setup disk or the remote control. If I buy the NV-I8DLS Learning Station unit (which I'll need later anyway) will that do the job of setup and control? Have I just backed myself into a corner?

Thanks.

Maybe you should ask for help on AVS. ;)

I see nobody has answered there besides me.

Sign up as an installer on the Nuvo website, for access to programming sw.

I don't think the IR learning kit does much, I wouldn't buy it, unless you hit a dead end.

Because you're an engineer (ee or train?) and have some credentials to fix it, and you say it's discontinued, you may want to ask one of the engineers at Nuvo to share a service manual or any schematics.

I have one of these units connected to my Grand Concerto system. And i'm pretty sure the front panel controls all work (despite being connected via NuvoNet to the GC unit), though you don't need the front panel controls to do anything--I never use them. I just took a quick look through the manual and didn't see anything about the front panel becoming disabled; can you point me to the relevant section of the manual, maybe i missed it?

in any event, as Neurorad suggests, if you get the configuration sw from Nuvo you can plug into the serial port on the rear of the unit and set everything up that way. Assuming you're plugging this device into a Nuvo system, you can access a number of the set up functions and (i think) all the tuning controls via a keypad or the included remote control.

Thanks for replying.

I don't have the rest of my Nuvo system yet. Planning on that purchase in Dec/Jan. However I'm reading a lot on this site, Remote Central, and AVS forum (hey Neurorad) about how in the last 2 years Nuvo has pretty much shut down access to all their setup software to anyone but their registered installers and dealers. Several people have called them and were told to get access to the Prozone web site from their registered supplier. In my case this is a discontinued used/slightly damaged unit with no support (eBay). I may give them a try anyway, as suggested.

The manual for the NV-I8GMS says for a T2 tuner:

"When each model of the T2 Tuners are plugged in for the first time, the initial display Unitialized State Detected (Press OK), will appear. When the OK button is touched, the Tuner will prompt a regional tuning selection. It will then go to Tuner A, Standalone, Source 1, Source 2, Source 3, Source 4, Source 5, Source 6. and Stand Alone is automatically highlighted at initial startup."

Since my used unit has previously been plugged in I am assuming it will be in an initialized state. I just don't know what that state is. If its not standalone this is going to be difficult to confirm if it works.

If anyone has the setup software to share please send me a PM. This issue with the setup SW being tightly controlled is making me reconsider my selection of Nuvo.

Thanks.
