Hello Everyone.
Been interested in a M1G and lurking here for a bit while trying to absorb it all. So I pulled the trigger on replacing my Ademco panel with an Elk. AO provided the stuff and I dug in today. Ending up moving the can from the 1st floor front entry closet (why they put there???) to the basement in my mechanical room. Almost all the wires are in the basement ceiling anyway and it is working out OK.
A few questions.
I have an indoor speaker on the first floor and got another speaker with the elk. I do not have an outdoor siren or anything and these are fricking loud. so for the time being I will put the new one in the basement and along with the one on the first floor, that should get me going. What is the best way to setup and configure? Put on out1? Parallel? Serial? How to wire?
I have two keypads and a few doors on it. Will get the rest of the windows wired in tomorrow. Noticed the keypads just beep. I thought they talked and the Elk had voice commands? Does this come out of the keypad speakers? Or do those just beep? And the voice will come out of the speakers once hooked up? I must be missing something?
I have a 2-wire smoke alarm and not sure the make and model. Its at the top of the hallway on floor 2. All the other rooms have stand alone fire alarms. I am going to put another one in the bsmt and in the garage in the future. But for now need to see if I can use the 2-wire that is there. Looking at the manual it seems I can only use zone 16 for a 2-wire. So if I want to know what smoke went off and where, I need to use 4-wire and connect to a zone input. Is that correct? Can anyone suggest some smoke detectors that is used a bit with the Elk?
CO Detector. Will want one for the bsmt mechanical room. Anyone care to suggest one?
Thx, Tom.
