I have Tim Bitson's book and have thoroughly enjoyed going through it so far. I have:
  • 6 temp sensors (home made)
  • Hobby Boards Pressure Module
  • AAG Wind Instrument (not installed yet)
  • Using "Simpleweather" to log to a .CSV on a windows XP Pro machine
In the future, I would like to:
  • Log the reading from my 1-wire station to an SQL database on one of the unused blade servers
  • Complete the weather station and get a web server running (preferrably stand alone but can use a server if needed)
  • Automate my HVAC
  • Automate my sprinkler system
  • Log zone times from ADT security system
  • Record video from outside cameras
I would like to get in to home automation but finishing the weather station is the priority.

Welcome to CT!

You definitely came to the right place. When you are ready, post your questions in the Home Automation forum with some more details about what exactly you are trying to do, and you'll get some good answers.

kollinsb,
Welcome to cocoontech!

I am aware that Homeseer and MainLobby automation server software support the 1-Wire devices and do the rest of capability that you are looking to do (and a whole lot more).

Welcome kollinsb,
I used the one - wire weather station for years with Weather Display but lightning kept taking it out. I finally gave in an bought a Davis Vantage Pro. Here's the out of the box web page with a forecast added to the top of the page.

What part of Tennessee are you from? I'm from Huntsville, Al and boat on Tim's Ford lake in TN.

I am from a little town west of Nashville. As far as the blade servers go I just got crazy lucky and found someone giving them away on craigs list and I pounced. I think they're BL10e servers like these.

As far as software is concerned I will definately check it out.

I'm looking forward to getting a little deeper in to this. It looks like I ran accross the right place....

Thanks for all the replies.

If you are looking for great uses for those unused servers, you are in the right place.
