Wow...very nice..... You site is also amazing and is a TON of help!!
Thx. btw, my equipment list is on my blog [homeautomation.wordpress.com]. it's got the ongoing saga of my Elk setup.

Also, if you want that skin it's yours - the Elk graphics are provided free courtesy of ripper, and the art is from www.vladstudio.com. If you at least get the $8 3 month subscription, then I can freely send it to you knowing that you have a license.

Do you have any security cameras outside your home?

I am trying to find a good wireless IP camera that can be used outside or I can build it a small case to put in.

Anyone?

Hopefully mounting one either this weekend(doubtful) or in 2 weeks. However, there's quite a few CQC guys that are already doing that.

For me, rather than get a wireless IP one, I've personally chosen to get one that will hang off a kodicomm card that i'll be putting into my fileserver. In addition, my camera location is only 25' from the PC location, so I'm running hardwired. However, I could just as easily have gotten a wireless video transmitter.

The reason I went down that route is b/c there's a MUCH better choice of weatherproof hardwired cameras that can be made wireless, especially if you relax the IP requirement. Many come with IR LEDs so that they can work in zero light. In addition, the cost is much lower ($100-$150 for decent ones).

What is a kodicomm card?

What I am wanting is the ability pan, tilt, and zoom that camera. Also record onto a file server and be able to monitor via the network or net.

Any other suggestions?

How do you made a wired camera, wireless?

A kodicomm card is basically a 4(8?) way capture card. I literally just installed mine a few weeks ago, and then the machine died, so I haven't actually used it, but this cocoon thread talks about it.

I'm not sure about PanTiltZoom, as I didn't happen to need it, but I recall reading it somewhere. I'll keep an eye out to see if I determine how to do it. Also read that thread for how to monitor - it seems pretty cool.

For making a wired camera wireless, all you need is a transmitter. This is a link I just found on the internet. I've never bought from these guys, and would recommend one of the folks who monitor cocoontech [i.e., Tech-home, toymaster] as they could guide you as to the right equipment BEFORE you bought. All I know is what I've read as I'm basically in the same place as you, but 2 months down the line and in the midst of installing the Elk first.
