No Security Zones Except Wireless Door Bell - Arm Away/Stay

Hi. I have no security zones in my Elk M1 Gold.

All I know is that when arming in away mode, the security system must detect a violated zone whose zone type is "Perimeter Delay with Delay 1" and this is what I've read so far from the programming manual. So, is it possible to arm/disarm a security system a security system with no security zones?

I know someone will ask "what's the point of using a security system if there's no zones?" but I have a wireless doorbell, so if a visitor walks up to the front door and press the doorbell, the announcer will say "visitor at front door." However, I don't want the announcer to announce anything when I'm away from my apartment.

So I thought about putting a security system into arm away mode, even if there's no perimeter delay zone. One point that I need to make is that I may feel hesitated to put the security system into arm away mode, as I may get the feeling that the alarm will go off if no zones are violated, but I know there's a feature that allows the security system to put the arming state into stay mode.

So, does it make more sense to assign a function to toggle the counter to either 0 or 1 (0 indicates "away" and 1 indicates "stay") and setup the rule for that?

I think I would try doing this with rules and the function keys (and not even mess with arming/disarming). Maybe something like:

Whenever F1 Key is pressed
then enable voice
then display TEXT1 (on the keypad, which will be set up as "Voices Activated in "Text" settings)

Whenever F2 Key is pressed
then disable voice
then display TEXT2("Voices Silenced")

Probably easy, better ways of doing this, but this is what came to mind first.

Why not actually create a fake zone? You can use any of the 16 hardwired zones. Just put an EOL resistor, or, even easier, mark it as "normally open" and leave it alone.

What you are wanting to do is easiest handled with Rules. You can arm any area without burg zones or use an F key to control and output to enable the voice to speak. Lots of combinations in which you can control the speech.

Whenever the Normally Open Door Bell Button is pressed
AND some output is turned on OR the control is armed, etc.
Then Say a voice message "Someone is at the front Door"

Thanks, guys!

It looks like the better solution is to program a function to activate/silence the voice whether I'm home or not.

Once I get the NX-548E for wireless zones, then I can change the rules so that when armed away, the voice will not announce even if I don't disable the voice. But for all other armed stay states, including the disarmed state, the voice will announce "someone at front door."

Thanks!
