Not directly related to home automation, but a Korean company named "Nuri Telecom" has developed a modem (SCU-C101) which uses the ZigBee wireless protocol and succeeded in connecting it to credit card readers and has a 400 meter range. The product would be very useful in building automation, where access security can be pretty important. This is the same company which recently launched ZigBee automatic meter readers here in the US.
