Omni LT and X10

I am installing an Omni Lt, replacing an old Honeywell Total Home System. It has been a challenge. Now I am trying to get the X10 to work. I know the house code is C. I pulled a cover and looked at the dial. I made no changes in the light switches and they worked on the Honeywell. Can't get them to work on the Omni. I have gone into Setup Control; X-10 House code, and set it to C. I select "all on," none come on. Am I missing something?

Where do you have your X-10 -> Serial Module plugged in? What type of module is it? What type of cable do you have? It should be plugged into the RJ-11 on the bottom right of the board. Have you tried controlling a unit directly?

Now I am confused. I didn't think I needed any additional modules to control X-10. I thought that the LT board controlled 16 X-10 units without any additional hardware.

The LT supports X-10, but you need an interface to get the X-10 signal from the LT, onto the powerline. The most common interface is a TW-523 from X-10 USA or the PSC-05 from X-10 Pro.

Thanks. I have ordered the PSC-05. Can you give me the pinouts for the cable? Was the need for an interface mentioned in the installation materials? I didn't see it and thought I read them thoroughly. If not there, it should be. I am bound and determined to get this system working.

PIN1 = Not Used
PIN2 = X10 Transmit
PIN3 = X10 Receive
PIN4 = Ground
PIN5 = X10 Zero Cross
PIN6 = Not Used

Hi Al, and everyone else on the forum. Glad to be here, looks like a good one!

A little about me-

- I spent some time several years ago as a commercial alarm installer with ADT, installing mostly Ademco stuff. I'm a computer teacher now, with a background in electronics.

Anyway, I am in almost the same boat as Al; I have a new Omni LT and am trying to get my X-10 lights to work with it.

- I'm using the "dealer" version of PC Access, V 2.16a. My LT's firmware is 2.12a (do I HAVE to buy a new chip to upgrade it or can I flash it? The update firmware option in the software is greyed out.)
- I have an X-10 pro PSC05 2-way power line interface connected to the X-10 port with an RJ-11 crossover cable (1234-4321)
- I have an active X-10 repeater installed in the breaker box.
- House code is set properly in the LT.

Can't control any lights at all! I know that the PSC05 Interface can "hear" X-10 signals because the light on it blinks when i send out commands from elsewhere, but nothing happens when i try to command with the LT. Not sure what to try next. Anyone have a hint?
How did you do with your X-10 quest, Al?

Thanks!

There are 3 things that come to mind very quickly:

1. Under Setup, Installer, Control, does the X-10 House Code letter match the house code your lights are configured to? If not, make the change.

2. Under Setup, Miscellaneous, Control, is the House Code format set to the type of X-10 lighting you are using? Standard is used for any X-10 devices that are not made by Leviton or Compose - Extended is for Leviton X-10 products - Compose is for Compose X-10.

3. Is the PIM plugged into the proper location on the LT? The X-10 connection is in the lower right-center and not top left-corner.

If all of the above are correct, you can test whether the LT is sending X-10 commands by:

1. Send an Unit 1 On command from a console or PC Access while watching the LED on the X-10 interface - if it blinks, the signal is getting out of the LT.

2. Assuming the signal is being sent, the next check would be to use an X-10 tester to measure/view the X-10 signal for weakness and to confirm what is being sent.

Mine works fine. I got the PSC, plugged it in and it worked right out of the box. I even used a commercial phone cord that I had lying around. The pin outs matched perfectly. I plugged it in, went to console, hit all on, and all the lights came on. Before I installed the interface, I made a point of opening up each switch and resetting the house and switch codes. I was replacing an earlier system and thought I knew the codes but wasn't sure. Before I tried the new interface, I wanted to be sure that the codes in the LT matched those on the units. I am now working through the ins and outs of programming but making fine progress.

I think that the advice given also in response to your message is probably a good place to begin.

Hang in there. I got great help on this forum. The HAI people are the greatest.

Thanks Al, and everyone else. I have triple-checked everything, tried several different cables (cross-over and straight through) but see no reaction from the X-10 transciever when a command should be getting sent out, and i can only come to the conclusion that my X-10 unit is bad. Already ordered another one, I'll keep you posted with the results.

Well, I got the new PSC05 today. Plugged it in, tried a command, and it works like a charm. Guess my other unit was a dud. Thanks all!!
