outdoor low voltage motors?

Has anyone done anything with LV motors outside? I'm nearly done putting up an 11 foot hight, 11 foot deep, 8 foot wide awning on my back door. and I want to put up a clear tarp on the sides so its protected against the rain. (NorCal, no snow).  I don't want to permanently mount it, one thought I had was to put pulleys on the top so I could use a string to raise/lower it.  But if I'm putting up a pulley, I could just take the next step and connect it to an LV motor and automate it.

Its 3 feet away from the property line where I have a fence, so I could jury rig a box to somewhat protect it against direct rain. Won't be waterproof though.

Anyone have any experience with using LV motors outside (or a different idea altogether?)
