overhead contact in garage

Also get your self a cell phone and give the number to the monitoring company and that way they can try and call the cell number also when no answer at home.

Another layer of security is the outdoor sensors. They can notify inside people if someone is wandering around your house. You can also let them know they are being detected. Or have the system call your cell phone if you are out.

I would not recommend calling the security company or triggering a full alarm with the outdoor sensors because these sensors may produce much more false alarms (pets, weather conditions, etc.).

Again, you are protected by layers of redundancy. Hopefully, the outer layers can take care of the problem, but if not the other ones will.

Some other tricks you can add to the security system is to use cross zoning which is built into the M1.

For instance, two motion detectors, two doors, or a door and motion detector. When one zone is violated, then one of the other cross zone zones must be violated within a programmable time delay in order to trigger the alarm. A prealarm signal will sound when the first zone is violated and turn off if a second zone is NOT violated. You can set up as many zones as you desire as cross zone zones.

This takes care of most sensor based false alarms.

Concerning the garage door monitor, one thing I do is if the system (Caddx NX8e) is armed in "stay" mode and the garage door is open, I have my Ocelot close it.

If the system is armed in "away" mode, and seven minutes has passed, and the garage door is open, I "chirp" the garage siren, flash the garage lights, then close the garage door (in case I drive away leaving the garage door open).

As far as window and door sensors, you will find a lot of automation related things you can do. For instance if it is dark and my side garage door opens (taking out the trash), I have the side outdoor lights automatically turn on (this is a great WAF feature). When the door closes I turn them off. (We basically only use that door at night to take the garbage out).

Also, you can insure all your windows and doors are shut before you leave the house. You can announce whenever any window or door is opened (great feature for people with small children).

So lots of options! :)

Her question was, why do I have to put window contact sensors if I will also be putting motion sensor? Can you help me please? Is it because that there are devices that can jam motion sensors?
Another reason is if your alarm system is turned off, you can still trigger events based on either motion in that room OR the window opening.
