Power On Sensors

The wiring guide says "Don't Forget to run extra wire (doesn't say which type) for 'power on' sensors, such as the Cr magentics current sensors.

What do people use these for?

The type of wire depends upon the sensor, could be as simple as 22/2, but hard to go wrong with good ol' Cat5 for flexibility and spares. A sensor could be an analog input back to your elk or it could be a simple contact closure, so I would say that most times only 2 conductors are needed if the device is self-powered or powered locally.

I just picked up a HD-DVD player that I will be controlling via IR. I'll put a current sensor on it so I can tell the power status of the device. It's especially helpful with something like that because it needs to boot before accepting commands when it is turned on. Without being able to see the device (it is going to be in a cabinet), this device would be frustrating to use via IR without the current sensor.
