Are any Premise users interested in participating in a web conference?

If you are interested, please suggest a convenient time (i.e. weekday evening, Saturday morning, etc) and what topics you'd like to discuss.

I suggest we use a free conferencing service like DimDim (free for up to 20 people ... which represents twice the number of current Premise users). ;)

I'd love it. As to when ??? I am in reactionary mode lately, so it's tough to nail down a best time. But this weekend is wide open, the next is not. Some week nights can work, but not next week ;)

Seems that weekend mornings usually work for these things.

Topics:

VBScripting for noobs :)
Building a driver

your community may be different, but after many many other attempts, the CQC folks found Saturday 8:30am PST to work best. It's early pacific, but not hugely early. And east-coasters can still attend without destroying their whole day. We typically go ~2 hours, although sometimes folks hang on for a while. One time, i heard it went on for SIX, which is a little wacky. Sunday am doesn't work due to church obligations for many.

We did do 7:30pm PST Friday night once, but that was tough as most folks were pretty fried from the week and not in a mood to watch & have intelligent HA-type conversations.

I think this is a great idea! For newbies like me, I would find it very useful just to see what advanced members are doing with Premise. This would give me ideas of new things to try ;)

I also think it would be neat if we could focus on where the past video tutorials left off and provide a downloadable copy for future new members. For me, I was never able to find a good video on advanced programming in Premise; perhaps one that shows how to make a simple module without using the custom device wizard; it could even give a beginners course on the premise sdk.

I've watched what videos I could find many times and the ability to rewatch the web conference would be very useful for me. If we did need to spend money to be able to record the sessions, I'd be willing to chip in to support that.

As to when... Any weekend is fine with me. Two weeks out of the month I travel for work (M-F only) so I may not be able to do weekdays. If we did do it on a weekday, I am central time so anytime after 5:30pm CST would work (provided I'm not on travel that week).

I think it's a great idea. My home schedule is pretty screwy lately but I'll do my best to drop in at whatever time you guys decide on.

I could/would also jump in from time to time. Weekends, prob best. California timezone for me....

It WOULD be nice to talk to folks that might know what I'm talking about as opposed to the nice smile and nods I get from my wife when discussing my latest Premise achievement...

What I meant earlier was it'd be nice to know how to make a simple module without using the custom device wizard; it could even give a beginners course on the premise sdk. However, the simple module would be based on a completely new device class (ie not based on existing classes like receiver, camera, etc... but something new like weatherRadarMap).

Count me in. I've been using another HA package for my home for several years but I have a special project I'm working on and this system will work great for that project.

I'll be setting up a CQC webinar for some Fri night @7:30pm PST. If the webinar logistics is an issue, youse guys could always 'borrow' the meetingid for the 1-1.5hours earlier (ie, 6:00pm PST) and do your shtick before the CQC'ers get on. I'd log in @6pm, make one (or more) of you an organizer/presenter, (Gotomeeting word for meeting administrator) so you could do whatever you want. I'd leave my PC on and connected, just not listen in, and ask that the premise 'organizer' not click "End Meeting for All" when they exit.

Plus, you could push ajey on his 'commitment to premise', as Friday 6:00pm PST is 5:30am Saturday Indian Standard Time. Hey - that qualifies as 'the weekend' :)

I think I'd be interested in this conference, too, unless it's not geared to the complete premise newb, which I am. If it's going to be too advanced, then I'll have to dig through the newbie materials first.

beezlerob,
I think the first meeting's agenda will be governed by its participants; questions will determine the meeting's content. Perhaps future meetings will have more structure; for now, we'll just go with the flow. If you attend, we'll certainly answer any so-called "newbie" questions.

IVB,
Thank you for scheduling suggestion and the offer to share your GoToMeeting session. I'll have to decline because I can't participate this Friday.

It looks like the meeting should be held on a Saturday at 12:00 PM EDT in order to accomodate people in California (9:00 AM) and India (9:30 PM).

BTW, I'm sold on DimDim for web conferencing because it compliments Premise's pricing model: free. :)

Hi 123,

Might I suggest that we start a thread to discuss the agenda for the web conference. Depending on how many attendees we have we could start with everyone giving a quick introduction and a brief "Why Premise?" discussion. We could also use that thread to post agenda suggestions or post questions we would like to discuss during the conference.

Or we could just continue the discussion in this thread?

Ken
