Problem using only one GE z-wave switch in a 3 way switch enviroment

I have a hallway that has 3 light switches. I replaced one of them with a GE z-wave switch. The switch has a traveller, so it will work on a 3 way switch but. If I shut off a regular switch and then turn it back on, the lights turn on for a second before the GE switch turns off.
Do all three of the switches have to be GE switches, or is there a way to keep two of them "dumb" switches?

You need to replace the other switches with z-wave auxiliary switches (model 45610).

FYI: As far as I know using the Aux switch doesn't fire any events indicating the state of the lights. i.e. you get a status message when toggling the main switch but if the aux switch is toggled, you have to poll to get the state. Dumb.
