Programming & Lorex integration

Hi All -

First, I'd like to thank everyone for the great collaboration and eagerness to answer my earlier question!

I'm moving into a home that has an older HAI Omni 2 board installed. I think I'm going to update the board to an OmniPro 2 (mostly for Internet connectivity support  / ethernet).

So.. assuming I get that in place, I want to start putting Omnitouch 7 screens around the house. And that will only lead to further customization and integration. So, two questions:

1.) What software component(s) do you recommend I acquire to do the programming myself? I'm a software engineer by trade, so the more powerful the better. I'd like to build my own custom touchscreen interfaces, as well as have the most powerful configuration engine for the core board itself.

2.) Has anyone integrated Lorex 1080P IP Cams successfully into an HAI Omnitouch screen? I'd like a motion trigger or a doorbell ring to pop the closest camera onscreen. Has anyone successfully programmed this?

Thanks!

I think there are a few options, depending what you are looking for.  To program the panel itself (if its a OMNI Pro II) you need Leviton/HAI's PC Access. You can program it from a console, but you really don't want to do that.  The "User" version is fine for programming, but the "Dealer" version lets you better access a few settings, and maybe more importantly, lets you save and restore these settings, but its quite a bit more expensive.

Then there is HAIku Helper, which is software that runs on a Mac Mini.  It allows some power scripting to control the OMNI.

For a PC, there is CQC which allows for control of the OMNI and other home automation devices, and it allows you to create user screens that can run on touchscreens connected to a PC.  The negative is it uses a proprietary language which you have to learn, but its very powerful.

Each level you go up, from programming on the panel itself, to HAIku Helper, then CQC is more powerful, but also requires a bigger commitment.  HAIku Helper and CQC require a Mac/PC running fulltime.

I'd start by just programming the panel from PC Access, and see if that will work or if you need more.

Here mixing old and new I was able to use PCA to configure and connect to my variety of IP cameras and analog cameras.  Worked out of the box just fine.  I did need more hardware but did it with no software.

This is all really helpful guys. Appreciate it a ton. Looks like i'll have fun fiddling with the system over the summer.

What about HAI Automation Studio for its touchscreens? Or would you recommend I go with another in-wall touchscreen solution? In that case I also see that HAI has released its OS OmniTouch Pro for use on other devices.

Right now the Omnitouch 5.7e's and Omnitouch 5.7's work fine with my CCTV stuff using both legacy and new IP cams.

I am also running HAI Wintel Omnitouch Pro on other screens and that doesn't work with the integrated video stuff like the Omnitouch 5.7e's.

Wintel Omnitouch application locks up when I go to video CCTV stuff.

The above said using Automation studio you can still insert the video stuff on the Omnitouch Pro software.

I was though trying to do all of this stuff with PCA as it works fine with the Omnitouch 5.7e's.
