QUATECH ThinkQ QSE-100D-BA 4 Port RS-232 Serial Server (CHEAP!)

Rupp, the QSE-100 comes with the drivers, so there isn't much to worry about. The Quatech drivers encapsulate the serial data, so if you want to do 'raw tcp', you would use something like HW VSP. I usually use v2, haven't played with v3 yet.

I tried using HW_VSP 3 on my Hometroller... it worked great until I re-booted and then stopped. I can't reconfigure or reinstall because the configuration page has the Create COM box grayed out and nothing I enter will make it live again. I also think the un-install does not work because after it says it is successful there are still files on the drive. (Can wipe those manually but what is it leaving in the registry?) Any suggestions appreciated!
Like Dan, I am still using HW_VSP 2.5. I have 3.0 installed and played briefly with it, but couldn't do anything to make the "create com" button gray out.

Just installed 2.5 on the Hometroller and it is working great just as 3 did when I first installed it. In theory I should now hit the HTProtect Icon and allow the registry settings to be retained on the C drive after a reboot and I should be good to go but past experience tells me as soon as I reboot, this thing will not come back up and no amount of un-install/re-install will bring it back. I can never reboot my Hometroller again!

Is the power supply running hot, or does it feel cool to the touch? Thanks for the update!

I unplugged it today because we were having company over. I didn't notice it being hot. I plugged it back it and will specifically check tempuratures in the morning, but it will just verify that it runs cool to the touch.

Thanks for the info Brian! I just wanted to make sure these weren't rebadged 1.5A supplies or something.

With V2 of HW VSP, I just use a shortcut pointing to the exe with parameters to start up the virtual com port, so nothing has to be 'saved' afaik. You can find more info about the command line parameters here (scroll down).

I checked the power supply this morning. I have three power supplies hooked up at the same location. One for the QSE, one for a Nokia N800, and one for a Wireless router.

The QSE power supply wasn't stone cold to the touch, but it wasn't hot by any means. The wireless router power supply was much warmer to the touch than the QSE was. The Nokia power supply was stone cold.

If I had to guess, I'd say it was probably 80-90 degrees. Just enough above room temp to feel slightly warm to the touch.

The interface is completely different (matches the current website), but feature wise, there isn't much difference. Check their 'changes' log to be sure there aren't any major bugs tho.

Got my power supply today, it's the $4 domestic oneone for the PSP. but it is the wrong connector :D need to change that before I can test it.
