Raceway for 6/3 romex?

I have to run some 6/3 from the attic to the crawlspace. Unfortunately, I can't easily run down a single stud bay. I have to jump over some studs in the garage. Problem is, one of these has no less than 6 adjacent 2x6 studs. It's supporting a large GLB that holds up part of the second floor. I don't really want to drill through 9" of wood, nor do I know if it's wise to drill these particular studs.

So, I've decided the path of least resistance would be to just run the wire on the surface of the wall for a couple of feet. I think this is called a 'raceway'?

Can I just frame a little box out of 1x2 or 1x1, cover it with a piece drywall, and call it good? It's in the garage, so appearance is not critical.

I would cut and patch a heck of a lot of drywall before using exposed EMT or any other raceway for that matter. Have you really looked at all of your options? It would be a lot cleaner if you saw nothing exposed.

What is this for? Sub panel, electric heat, etc

Hot tub.

I made the decision today to just drill through the studs. One relatively small hole in a bunch of 2x6 studs can't hurt, and it'll let me keep it all hidden.
