Remote Car Starter

If you can find a DEI 556T, it will do exactly what you want. I have several of these on my cars and trucks and they are bullet proof. It's like a sprinkler timer for your remote start. They go for about 30 bux.

I have remote starts in two of my vehicles. Both are programmable to start with temperature extremes. One is a long range RF but not connected to the internet. Two vehicles have CarPC's. With these PC's I have connected to the bus of the vehicles letting me tap into some basic functions like windows, lights, GPS. Having this ability, autostarting vehicle and internet access would allow you to extend your home HA to your vehicle if you wanted.

Integrating the autostart with your HA works with just about any remote starter / hack especially if your vehicle is in the driveway etc.

Things you have to be careful with are just saftey issues relating to starting your car remotely say in your garage without the door opened etc.

You can purchase GSM modules that will work with any sim card that will do what you want remotely (even GPS location etc).

I'm digging the DEI 556T...what do i need to look for in a car starter to be compatable with this device / how does it work?

I have one installed in one of my vehicles (330XI-E46). It was installed around 2003-4?. Its kind of a mini programmable controller for the starter. It works well but doesn't save the time or settings if you take it off the battery.

In the late 1990's at work a number of us had remote starts and we had a little contest to see what could be done remotely and internally to these remote starters to be able to start the cars. The campus and walk to the vehicles was probably 1/3 to 1/2 of a mile. I ended up putting a setback thermostat in my vehicle to work with the remote starter. I still have the vehicle (Mazda) and the same remote starter in it and it still works fine.
