Remote Desktop to SageTV Server

I just installed SageTV (very impressed with this software so far and haven't even scratched the surface on its capabilities) on a Windows XP Pro box, and one thing I like to do is to Remote Desktop to make changes as the keyboard mouse is stowed away as it's in the family room (connected to the TV there).

One problem with this remote connection methodology is after I disconnect, the log in dialog box is left displayed on the TV (which is a PITA as you have to use the keyboard to unlock the machine). Is there a way around this? Does VNC have this problem?

Thanks,

BSR

No VNC doesn't have this issue.

Also if you apply the "TS patch" for XP you can log in as a different user and make system changes.

What changes are you making? Is this common?

BSR:

Are you using RD to access the OS and other programs or to access Sage?

HEY! Look who is back with us!! Good to see you on-line again smee! ;)

I just wanted to just perform setup menu access with Sage (i.e not actually watch TV or play music). Plus other house keeping stuff like using explorer file manager for transfering files, etc...

For accessing Sage itself, I'd definitely recommend using Placeshifter. I have two machines running Sage right now (that don't communicate with each other at all). One of them is connected to my TV, but I rarely ever look at it there. The other is running headless (on WHS).

I use Placeshifter to access one of them and Client to access the other (because those are the licenses I happen to have). To play recordings, I'm using extenders (one HD, one MVP). Placeshifter gives you complete control over Sage (except for editing files, etc.).

By using the extenders, nothing else I do on the machines interferes with my use of Sage. On the WHS one, I can log in at any time I need to by RD (which is rare). On the other machine, it's running XP Home so I can't RD into it anyway. I can VNC, but I don't usually.

Sage is running as a service on both machines, so the interface never needs to be up anyway.
