Reseeded smoke sensors

For my new home i'll probably want a smoke sensor in each room, but don't like the looks of them.

Any suggestions for small/recessed sensors?

I would be worried about the performance of a recessed smoke detector - they need good air flow in order to properly work, matter of fact you're not even supposed to put them within (24"?) of a wall or corner if I remember the installation instructions correctly.

I beleive that Bosch or someone else makes a UL Listed Smoke Detector that is recessed. Just be prepared for sticker shock.

yep. The Napco Firewolf's actually look decent, esp for a life-saving type device.

The Napco, System Sensors, and a few others look fine. I admit there are some ugly ones out there.

I use System Sensors personally but have used the Napco and they are fine. In a way they are a little sleeker looking I guess.

I have several system sensor 4wta-b and a few 4wtr-b. The look about the same size as a normal smoke detector just a little bit taller. While look is pretty important, don't forget why you're installing them. You can install them in places that aren't as noticable when you walk into the room or the house and still have them function correctly.

One thing I have learned is that I never pay attention to my ceilings. I recently had a water leak in my living room and the insurance company sent someone out to cut the wet drywall out. It took almost 2 month before they came to patch the 4' X 4' hole. After about the second week I forgot the hole was even there.

In my basement I put 4 in ceiling speakers in for my theater. I never notice the speakers are there and the whole I cut to assist in pulling my wires I don't notice either. I simply covered that hole up with a blank round wall plate.

My point is that you will probably never notice your smoke alarms unless they are going off. So save your self the money that you will spend on recessed smokes and spend it on a quality Smoke/CO2 detector.

I agree. When I look at how screwed up our sheet rock, painting, can alignment is I am shocked. Don't bother!

I have to agree with the last few posts. I was really concerned about the appearance of the standard mount smoke detectors during my remodel. During construction I installed the smoke detectors and put the bright red dust cover back on the detectors while the construction was completed. After a couple of weeks I did not even see the bright red covers hanging on the ceiling any more!
