Robbed

It was in the daylight while I was at work.

Your misfortune inspired me to finally begin a project I've been kicking around in my head for a couple years. I've recently been using Occupancy Sensing (thanks to something Dan Electron posted). Now that my home automation software now knows when I am home or not... I was able to setup my OUTSIDE Voice Warning. So if I am not at home... DAY or night.. anyone prowling around outside will hear a warning that the area is off-site video monitored. Just like with my normal Activity Detected (YouTube Video) Warning.

All I used was a simple PR511 (X10 wired motion sensor), AHP macros and BVC (Bills Voice Commander) software.

I was surprised how quickly it all went together today. I simply used the motion sensor with the wires that normally connect to the light bulbs capped with wire nuts and electrical tape. Set the sensor to work in full light... and used a + [plus] setting to trigger a conditional macro. The condition is (of course) That the [fake monitored] module I use is set ON (which means no one is home). So I can enjoy the deck and yard, or mow and garden, without being disturbed. But if I am gone... the yard becomes armed with a Voice Warning.

Thanks for sharing your story!

You're welcome. People at work that I told are like "hmmmm... maybe I need to do something about home security". So I guess something good can come out of this mess. Everything I'm doing now are things I intended to do "one of these days". I am the king and emperor of procrastination. Now I got a good swift kick in the a$$ and I'm doing the things I wanted to do eventually. The money I spent on replacement of stuff and security upgrades was money I was going to use to put in hardwood floors. Now it's deadbolts, door jamb armor, cameras, elk door/window sensors. And in reality the security stuff will pay off more than hardwood floors wood, just for the peace of mind. And eventually I'll get my hardwood. One of these days... :(
