Flagship HLR5688W Pedestal DLP TV Combines Samsung’s CinemaSmoothTM Generation 5 Optical Engine and the new 1080I Micro-Display for the Ultimate Home Theater Experience;
67†HLR6768W Offers 1080P on World’s Biggest DLP TV Screen

Las Vegas, NV — DTV visionary Samsung Electronics America, Inc., a global leader in the home cinema industry, introduces the 5th Generation of DLP TVs, led by the HLR5688W, the very first available 1080P DLP TV. Samsung also announces the groundbreaking 68-Series, featuring the largest DLP screen ever at 67â€. This year’s line of new DLP TVs once again demonstrates Samsung’s commitment to advancing DLP technology, while maintaining the perfect balance of price, performance and form factor. Samsung’s full lineup of DLP TVs will be on display during CES 2005 in the Samsung booth, #11024 in the Central Hall of the Las Vegas Convention Center from January 6th – 9th.

“Samsung has long been recognized as a digital television pioneer, and this next-generation of DLP TVs is our most ambitious yet. The 1920 x 1080 pixel progressive display gives our customers perfectly smooth, cinema film quality HD video and unprecedented image clarity,†said Steve Panosian, Director of Marketing for Samsung’s Visual Display Group. “The days of reduced picture quality on larger screens are ancient history. With top-of-the-line high-definition video conversion, Samsung’s 2005 DLP models turn any programming into a captivating, theater-quality experience.â€

World’s First 1080P DLP
The 56†HLR5688W pedestal DLP is the very first 1080P DLP TV to hit the market. The Cinema Smooth™ Optical Engine provides super-high (1920 x 1080) pixel density and progressive scanning for matchless video-image quality. The 5000:1 contrast ratio keeps colors lifelike and vibrant, while Samsung’s enhanced Digital Natural Image Engine (DNIe™) takes the signal from any kind of input and turns it into a stunning picture. The set is Digital Cable Ready (DCR) with a built-in CableCARDTM eliminating the need for a set-top box for digital cable program viewing.

The unique pedestal display showcases Samsung’s design ingenuity and ensures that the set “Fits Where Others Won’t.†The DLP TV utilizes Samsung’s AnyNet™ System Solution providing simple one-touch control for home theater equipment. Two High-Definition Multimedia Interfaces (HDMITM) ensure optimal signal transmission from DVD players and other digital devices. Cinema Film Mode, 3:2 pull down and a robust 30-watts of audio power complete the home theater experience. The 50†model, HLR5087W, incorporates the same features with a Cinema Smooth™ 720P engine and a single HDMI. Both models will be available in February 2005. The HLR5087W has a $3,699 MSRP. The HLR5688W has a $4,999 MSRP.

World’s Largest DLP TV at 67â€
Samsung’s top-of-the-line HLR6768W makes digital television history with a 67†screen, the largest ever in a DLP TV. But that’s just the tip of the innovation iceberg for the 68 series of Samsung DLPs. A unique floating screen design separates the screen and bezel from its base to create a stunning visual effect even when the set is off. The cutting-edge Cinema Smooth™ Generation 5 HD 1080P engine provides the highest available level of image precision and flicker-free playback in a DLP TV, and the 30 watts of audio provides ample sound for operating independently of a surround sound system.

The 68 series features the latest version of Samsung’s celebrated DNIe™ technology that combines a detail optimizer, motion optimizer, contrast enhancer and color optimizer to provide superior picture quality. The 68 series offers the ultimate in device connectivity with two HDM inputs, two component inputs, two composite video & one S-Video. Each model features an ATSC Tuner / NTSC Tuner, and the sets are Digital Cable Ready (DCR) with built-in CableCARDTM. Cinema Film Mode 3:2 pull down and the Samsung AnyNet™ System Solution complete the package for the ultimate in performance and convenience. The 67†HLR6768W will be available in June 2005 for an MSRP of $6,999. Additional models in the series include: the 56†HLR5668W will be available in June 2005 at $4,199 MSRP. The 56†HLR6168W will also be available in June 2005, for an MSRP of $4,499.

"Watching sporting events on the HLR6768W is almost better than being there," said Panosian. "The winning combination of best-in-class image resolution, DLP technology and a huge screen places Samsung’s customers right in the center of the game. Film aficionados will be blown away by the quality of their DVD playback – it is a truly cinematic experience.â€

Also on display at CES 2005 is Samsung's 67 Series of DLP televisions. The core series features an elegant, table-top casing incorporating Samsung’s striking new floating screen design. The worldwide security market nets $127 billion yearly. Home and small business consumers are a rapidly expanding market segment, escalating the demand for do-it-yourself security solutions that cut out the expensive labor and monitoring costs inherent in professionally installed systems. Currently, 18% of US households have some form of security system with the number set to increase swiftly as solutions become more affordable and easy to install.
“The home monitoring market brings all of Samsung’s technology leadership and retail expertise into play,†said Frank Romeo, Director of the Digital Set-Top Box Group for Samsung Electronics America. “The demand for easy-to-install video monitoring systems is greater than ever and Samsung is going to blow the market wide open with exciting and affordable retail packages that will accelerate the market penetration of do-it-yourself video monitoring solutions. These new systems match our celebrated lines of LCDs, VCRs and DVDs with the best optical technology and network compatibility to provide reliable security at a price that is feasible for small businesses and families.â€

Samsung’s home and small business monitoring systems are versatile, offering security not only against break-ins and vandalism, but allowing busy parents to check up on the babysitter and employers to keep track of several satellite offices from a central location. Samsung offers the individual DIY System components in a wide range of customizable packages. Users can include networking capabilities that will allow them to view the camera output remotely via the Internet, and connect their system with existing home alarms. A variety of monitors, cameras and recording devices maintain a new level of safety and comfort, and advanced networking options can beam an image directly to a user’s wireless device if an alarm is ever triggered.

Monitors
Most existing solutions provide only average quality black & white display. Samsung brings all of its TV technology expertise to bear in the DIY security arena with a range of superior resolution color display devices that offer a whole new world of image precision and accuracy. All of Samsung’s CCTV monitors offer 4 or 8 camera inputs. Users can choose either a versatile flat screen or a high-quality space-saving LCD monitor. Most models include dual-quad (or greater) display that shows output from multiple cameras on a single screen. Flat-screen monitors range from the 15†Switcher model, which provides sequential display from up to four cameras, to the top-of-the-line 21†DVR model with a built-in recorder, network compatibility and capability to view input from up to 8 cameras. 15†or 17†LCD monitors offer dual-quad display with up to 8 camera inputs, and network connectivity that allows users to view camera output in real time over a broadband connection.

Cameras
Samsung has built a reputation for elegant design that provides a perfect balance between form and functionality. The Samsung cameras included in DIY Video Surveillance packages feature cutting-edge optical technology and blend seamlessly with any décor. The Standard Camera is weather resistant and features a ¼†Super HAD IT CCD sensor for accurate, hi-resolution images. A 3.8mm focal length allows it to observe a wide area, and it also includes a microphone and speaker for 2-way audio communication. The indoor Dome Camera also features a ¼†Super HAD IT CCD sensor and 3.8mm focal length, and can be easily affixed to the wall or ceiling using the supplied tap screws. The PIR (Passive Infrared) Camera provides 40’ x 56’ of indoor coverage, with a motion sensor that can trigger an alarm siren, emergency lighting, and auto-recording to a time-lapse VCR or DVR. The PIR is also pet immune up to 30lbs., so Rover won’t accidentally trigger the alarm. Users can buy a two-camera (2 Standard) or four-camera (2 Standard, 1 Dome and 1 PIR) package, with the option to add individual cameras of each type.

IP Camera

The web-based IP Camera combines Samsung’s expertise in both A/V and IT technology to provide a remote monitoring option that keeps homes and small businesses secure, even from off-site. No PC is required to connect the camera to the web; it can send images across the Internet with a simple LAN, Cable Modem or DSL Ethernet connection. Owners can view up to 25 images/second of high quality video at resolutions up to 640x480. The IP Camera can also record images to the hard drive of a remote PC by viewer S/W, and can be configured to send an image via e-mail directly to the owner, whenever motion is detected. Remote Pan and Tilt Control offer a wide viewing range (Pan: ±60°, Tilt:+10° ~ -40°), with 8 presets and an Autopan function ensuring maximum security for the entire area.

DVRs/VCRs
Samsung DVRs and VCRs are among the most trusted in the consumer electronics industry. DIY CCTV owners can enhance their package with a number of recording options that can connect directly to their system for hassle-free video capture. The Time-Lapse VCR option provides up to 1280 hours of recording with a jog shuttle for easy tracking, and alarm and audio recording functions. The 1 Channel DVR is a cost-effective VCR substitute that offers a removable HDD with 80GB of recording space. The DVR is easy to operate and allows simple memory stick data transfer of MJPEG video images to a user’s PC. The DVR Combo offers the best of both worlds, combining a VCR with HDD data backup. The DVR Combo responds instantly to an alarm trigger, automatically recording and storing images of the area.

Samsung’s full range of DIY CCTV Security Packages will be available in March 2005.
