Schlitz 60's Formula

Has anyone tasted the "New" Schlitz? Suposedly they are producing this again with their orginal formula. I wasn't old enough to drink back when they quit making it (70's I think) - but have some fond memories none the less. Have not seen it yet in the St. Louis metro area.

I recall the old Schlitz vaguely, and I think it resembled Yuengling lager. It was one of my grandfather's favored brands. I hope to find some and see.

It is good to have more alternatives to InBev's undrinkable plonk products. We don't need no stinking rice beers.

I'm not much of a beer conniseur but I remember it being sort of an "old man" beer @ the time - My friend's parents drank it -
Guess who is the old man now? Moi!!
I checked @ a liquor store near by and was told they "can't keep it on the shelf". They are supposed to have more this Friday.

LOL what's this world coming to - Schlitz gets its own thread?!

I like to think of myself AS a beer con-wha-swar, and I don't think I'm too excited about Schlitz.

At least I'll try it, next time I see it.

My mother drank Coors Light and Michelob Light, so I never had the chance to steal any Schlitz.

Prob before my time, though, anyway.

I had a Dark Horse IPA tonight, with pork loin. Rogue Dead Guy before dinner.

Of course, now it's 9P, and I'm almost asleep from 2 beers. I'm not getting old, I AM old.

I'm currently in Charlotte on business and had the opportunity to sample Rogue Dead Guy and it was quite good. I can't speak for the rest of Canada but I've never seen this brand (Rogue) in Quebec. Our local microbrews are excellent but tend to have more reserved names. The exception is Unibroue and its colorful "Maudite" (Damned) featuring Lucifer and a 'magic carpet' canoe ... obviously based on some local folklore.

As for Schlitz ... as a kid, I remember seeing ads for this beer in Popular Mechanics and/or Mechanix Illustrated. Along with ads for Johns-Mansville fibreglas insulation, Elmer's glue, several brands of cigarettes, and a lovely brunette standing in front of a red '68 Firebird convertible. Such a long time ago.

A couple of other beers I remember from the 60's, 70's are Hamms, Olympia, and of course... Regal Select
Do they still exist?

We bought Lucky Lager in the 70's when we were low on cash. They had little pictorial puzzles under the caps.

Regal select, I don't recall. I still remember the Hamm's commercial of the motorcycle running and has it switched gears it sounded like it was saying something about Hamm's Beer...

As for Olympia, well, I actually have an "OLY" tattoo on my forearm. I'm such a loser...

Scratch that last one. On furthur reflection, I remember that the motorcycle ad was actually for Rainier Beer. Hamms had a cartoon animal softball team ad, though.

Yeah. I think it was the Hamms bear. I used to get that bear confused with Yogi. That was before the general public was aware of subliminal marketing techniques. They don't use cartoon characters to market beer anymore, unless you consider Homer and Duff beer, and Hank Hill and Alamo Beer.

Regal Select must have been regional. A quick google turned up "General Brewing; San Francisco, CA". Sounds quite generic. It was (really really) cheap tasteless beer. But it had alcohol in it. I think a case was 3.99 back in '76. All you could afford in high school.
