Securing a sliding patio door?

The ones I have listen for the thud of something hitting the glass followed by the higher frequencies of falling glass. A ziplock bag full of Legos tossed on the floor sets them off every time. This is one of my son's favorite things to do. Also, loud banging sounds will sometimes set them off. I was assembling a metal shelving system last night and pounded on it with a hammer, and that set it off.

I have mine on 24 hour zones. If someone breaks a window when I'm home, I want it to go off whether or not the alarm is armed.

I hadn't thought about having them on 24 hour zones. Do you have it contact the central station if they go off? Any good wireless ones that work with the Elk M1XRF2G?

Thanks,

Kevin

My .02. I don't put glass breaks on any of my customers 24 hour zones. I have found that depending on the glass break, the dishwasher, clanging of silverware, the gardener, all cause them to go off. It wouldn't be fun having to abort a false alarm two or three times a month.

That's what I was wondering. Never having glass breaks before, I wasn't sure what sets them off. Right now, my system is very reliable. That equates to trusting the system. I'd hate to lose the confidence that it's doing its job and not crying wolf. Everything has contacts on its own individual zone and motion covers most of the home, and certainly any path a burglar would cross. Do you think glass breaks are necessary when the alarm is set?

Thanks,

Kevin

I'm not using a central station right now. I'm sending SMS messages instead. If I had central monitoring, I would probably switch them away from a 24 hour zone.
