Sensor

I would like to be able to detect movement under my deck. The area is dark at night, and someone could easily walk under it and hide. What would be the best type of sensor to accomplaish this? I need to cover an area approximately 16x36.

Thanks

A motion sensor should work fine in that area. Place it where it "looks" toward to house to eliminate false readings out side of the deck area.

I have the same problem - dark under my deck, with basement windows there.

I plan on a motion and a security light. That area will be covered by a camera, eventually, for further discouragement.

I don't know how much a camera actually discourages. I doubt most criminals are actually looking for cameras in a residential setting. And if it's within their reach, they'll probably damage or steal it.

I put motions on the outside of my house (microwave/PIR combo's to reduce false positives), and I have my M1 set to just give me a voice alert if they are tripped. That way, I know someone is creeping around before they actually try to break in. As far as ON the deck, you could do a motion sensor, or get a pulsor sensor that detects when someone walks on the deck. The pulsor sensor mounts to the trusses underneath and detects the minute flex in them.
