Setting up rooms in PC Access

Ok, so I have installed a number of UPB devices and am setting them up in PC Access.

I know I need to name the devices, but should I name the rooms first? What should I make the first device of each room. I want to make sure that room control works, or if I group by room on the H@me app, it works properly.

If I don't like my order in PC Access, can I just move them around, or do I need to actually go reset the device, then re-add it to the system like I did the first time?

Do I have to use the UPstart program too, or can I do all I need in PC Access? If so, how.

Thanks.

You'll need to program each UPB device through Upstart and any associated links first. Then you can go into PC Access and use the assigned numbers given in UpStart to find and name the zones in the Units section and Links in the Scenes section.

If you ONLY use HAI switches then the panel can program them, but this is a bit limiting, although you can then use HAI room keypads and the LEDs remain in sync. If you go with UPStart, you can do much much more, but its also more work, and you can use any kind of UPB switch.

So, its your choice, but once you pick a method, you pretty much have to stick with it.

So if I already started with PC Access I am screwed? Can I just reset the devices and start over? It seems like that the UPStart would be the way to go.

Just remember, the HAI way is pretty idiot-proof and it controls all the indicator lights on the controller. If you go with Upstart, it can clear and reprogram your switches. Here is a good page that explains the UPStart method with HAI: UPB with HAI
