about to go down the path of DIY (probably elk m1g) for security and automation with a prewired house. The prewire (as most) did not install magnets for the reed switches. I have a DMM to test continuity so I can decode the cryptic labels for the 43 wires in the junction box in my closet, but need appropriate magnets first. Will any old magnet do for the various reed switches? hometech sells rare earth magnets for $2 each, but that seems expensive and may be too thick to surface mount for some of the windows/doors. Will generic RE magnets (available much cheaper on amazon or ebay) work? How bout the basic adhesive backed magnet tape... I'm assuming too weak, but I have no idea... any help or experience appreciated.
