Single Zone semi-manual sprinkler control

Hey All,

Been a silent observer for a while - not sure I've ever posted anything (done a lot of research on Elk M1 Gold vs. HAI - plan to put Elk in soon based on knowledge gained here).

That said, avid searcher - etc... but I have an interesting challenge I'd like a little help on. I know 12V automotive inside and out - and I know 120V pretty well... but this is something I'm having trouble finding info on with all my web searches.

So, this will sound a little weird, but here's what I'm trying to accomplish:
I want a sprinkler valve I can activate on-demand. Plain & simple - If I look out the window and see the planter looking dry, I want something that lets me turn the water on for a set amount of time, then it'll guranteed turn it off to prevent flooding possibilities. What would be ideal is something almost like the leviton light timer that has 5, 10, 20, 30 minute buttons - but to turn the sprinkler valve on then off at the end.

Anyone got any slick ideas? I don't want to spend a fortune, and I don't have the Elk yet - so I'm looking for single-station (single gang box) control.

Looking forward to your ideas!
-Todd

A springwound timer switch (0-60 minutes, often used for bathroom fans) and a 24VAC power supply and a standard irrigation valve?

But I think HD/Lowes already sell battery powered timers you just screw on your spigot for single zone use.

upstatemike has an WGL wireless sprinkler controller for $45 (including shipping) posted HERE. Sweet talk him into including a small two button X-10 remote or get a used palm pad from someone and you will be set, plus have extra zones for the future.

I will include a Palmpad with this.
