Siren instant on when zone violated on away, ELK M1G

Issue we continue having...

When the alarm is armed, either in instant away or away, the second one of our zones is violated (wireless door sensor primarily), the siren instantly goes off.  There is no time to disarm the keypad.  I believe the motion sensor near that door is the culprit to send the M1 into burglar mode, which is annoying on so many levels.

Anyone have a clue? all my delays are ok, but it continues to happen.

Do you have the motion sensor's zone set to Burglar Interior Follower?  That will prevent the alarm from triggering instantly if the door opens first, and then the motion detector triggers.

[edit: changed after to before in paragraph below]

I went back and re-read your earlier posts on this problem.  It sounds like you diagnosed the problem as being due to signal from the motion detector being received after before the signal from the wireless door contact.   If that's the case, then having the motion detector defined as interior follower isn't going to help (as you're experiencing!).

Did you try DEL's suggestion of masking the motion detector lens so that it excludes the area around the door?  Or defining the zone as Burglar Interior Night Delay?  That definition may not give you what you really want in terms of functionality when you are home at night, but I would try it and if it solves the problem of triggering the alarm when the door opens, you know you are on the right track.

Is the motion detector a wired sensor, or wireless?

If it is wired, you could connect it to a timer module, like the Elk 960 or Altronix 6062. The output of the timer would be connected to the M1's zone input (where you have the motion connected now), and would delay the contact closure of the motion for a few seconds to allow the door contact signal to arrive first.

You could also define the motion detector zone and an Aux zone, and use it to trigger an M1 rule that would turn on one of the M1's outputs after a delay of X seconds.  Connect that output back to another input on the M1, which you would define as burglar interior follower.   This approach requires that you have a spare output and input available.  If you don't have that, then using the 960 timer is probably the better solution.

RAL, did you mean the first bolded part as written?

The reason I ask is that I have a motion sensor in my great room that has visibility of my front door; it is defined as an interior follower. If my system is armed in an Away mode, opening the door will trigger my entry delay then motion is picked up on that sensor as I enter the home. Since it's defined as an interior follower, the trigger from the motion does not set off the alarm if the door is opened first.

I didn't go back and read those previous posts, but my motion is definitely not masked in any way.

Oops... I meant the other way around - that the signal from the motion detector is received before the signal from the wireless contact on the door.  Thanks for catching my error!
