Smoke detector location inside bedroom

I was referring to the documentation that is next to me, which is NFPA 72, '02 and '07, which does not recognize the locations in relation to dead air space that you referred to in the '10 NFPA 72. My area of the county doesn't adopt sections of the NFPA or NEC, it's an all or none item with the AHJ making the more stringent decisions of what they'd like to see. Residential is typically cited as a combination of both those codes and then citing typically BOCA, however the IBC has also come in a few cases.

When I said old code requirement I should have included that it was eliminated in the 2010 NFPA 72, my bad. The IFC in the past has been silent on some of the spacing requirements for detectors and in others it refers to NFPA 72. I wish this pissing contest between the International code and the National Fire Protection Assoc. would get resolved. Its bad enough staying up to date on fire code but buying and digging through two sets of code books is ridiculous, not to mention expensive.
