No matter what kind of memory it uses, I wouldn't want to enable local control by toggling power to the unit. That puts far too much thermal stress on the electronics. I could see local control the way the ApplianceLincs have it, where a short tap of the set button changes state.

I'd also like it to be able to update linked devices on its status when it is controlled locally.

I see your point, Tom, but for me a button would be useless.

Where I currently have socket-rockets (actually, their larger, uglier but more reliable counterparts) nobody could reach the button.

For me, local control would have to be used in conjunction with the existing wall switches.
