Touchscreen for control and video

I'm just getting started on this stuff, and I want to make sure I don't make a decision that will come back to byte me in the future. I've purchased CQC and will purchase the Elk M1G soon.

In the kitchen, I want to replace the monitor that is used solely for DirecTV viewing with a touchscreen that can be used for TV viewing, and be used with CQC and the M1G for HA/security, including future CCTV, and basic PC stuff (web browsing, email, etc.) . The touchscreen should have a widescreen aspect ration and be capable of HDTV. I don't have a HTPC, but may go in that direction in the future. DirecTV will remain the primary video source for a while. I would like the monitor to be around 15", but that size doesn't seem to exist. Everything I've seen goes from 12.1" to 17+". If that's the case, I would go with a 12.1". The CQC server will be running on a different PC.

So, can this be done? Other than a PC and touchscreen monitor (any suggestions on a widescreen model?), what else do I need? Do I need a HTPC somewhere in the mix to do this? Can the monitor change from CQC displays to DirecTV viewing seamlessly or will an external video switch be required? What I would like is a touchscreen monitor that was more like a TV monitor (multiple inputs, built in speaker, tuner, etc.) than a PC monitor. Is the Eee Top possibly a good fit? It's the screen size I'm looking for, but I'm not sure how it would function as a monitor for DirecTV viewing.

Thanks,
Ira
