Trip vs. Fault what is the difference

Folks,

I am working on interfacing my new GE Concord 4 system with Homeseer and ran across a question I can't seem to find the answer to. What is the difference between a Trip and a fault. When my system is unarmed and I open a door, I get a "Trip", haven't tried it with the system armed yet to see what it shows.

Any ideas?

Usually if this is a NC contact on an EOL zone then trip will be an open circuit in the loop and Fault would be a direct short. Normal status would be the value of the EOL resistor.
