UPB and X10 phase couplers

I currently have about 18 X10 Smartlinc switches and modules. I use a Signalinc coupler-repeater to improve signal distribution and strength. I'm now thinking of expanding my system using UPB devices.

UPB also requires a phase-coupler to improve signal distribution. Can I add a UPB coupler and leave the existing X10 coupler-repeater in place? Will they co-exist peacefully or will this arrangement create a problem?

FYI, UPB doesn't require a phase coupler, I don't have one installed, and have 0 problems. It all depends on your electrical environment.

They will co-exist very nicely, I still have 4 or 5 X10 devices installed and haven't bothered to take out the coupler/repeater yet.

While UPB technically does not need a phase coupler, like all those adds that said X10 was plug and play, do yourself a favor and install it. If not now at some point it will save you from pulling out hair by the fist-full when something doesn't work and you're trying to figure out why. Think of it as cheap insurance.

i had to add one to get upb to work reliably. i too am running both x10 & upb. the phase coupler i got bridges both protocols - so i replaced my x10 coupler.

Thanks for your prompt replies!

I misspoke in my post; phase-couplers for X10 or UPB are optional, not required, devices. My X10 Switchlincs worked without one but worked more reliably when I installed the Signalinc coupler/repeater. Simply Automated's site indicates their UPB phase-coupler also serves as a bridge for other PLC protocols (they mention X10). With the UPB coupler in place, I could remove the Signalinc if it were not for the fact that it also acts as an X10 signal booster/repeater ... and X10 signals can use all the help they can get.

Nightwalker's reply reassures me that the UPB coupler and Signalinc coupler/repeater can coexist.
